It was a successful day at the annual NCCC Tech Wars earlier this month, as Tonawanda High School placed fourth overall. Six hundred students from 32 schools participated in the competition. Forty-four THS students represented our district.
Tonawanda students competed in seven different events. Charles Reichle and Dan Tuco placed first in one of the featured robot events called, "Capture the Flag." Tonawanda also placed second with the team of Emma Harding, Andrew Kisloski and Kyle Folga, and third with the team of Josh Ayotte and Aiden Popovec.
The team of Jackson Shepler, Ari Popovich and Cameron Popovich placed second in the "Onsight Problem Solving Event." The students had to build the tallest tower from playing cards and withhold a gram weight and box fan stresses.
Rowan Leader placed second in "Onsight Parametric Modeling." He competed against 19 other students and had to draw an unknown part at the competition using 3D software. The part was a spring clamp. Rowan trained himself in various techniques in preparation for this event.
It was a rewarding and exciting day as THS students got a chance to see how they measure up to other schools!
