Celebrating 100 Days of School is always an exciting time for our students. This year, 1st grade students in Mrs. Saletta's class along with STEAM teacher Mrs. Honeck, decided to extend the celebration by teaming up, via Google Meet, with 1st grade students in Mrs. Trimboli’s class, from Ohio Elementary in North Tonawanda to complete a 100 Oreo Challenge. The classes were tasked with the challenge to work as a team to design and create a tall tower, a long bridge or some sort of structure using 100 Oreos. Students were given about 30 minutes to design and build their creation before they shared their finished project.Teams could also use additional items such as cups, popsicle sticks and construction paper to enhance their designs. Once teams started building, the creativity, communication skills and teamwork took this challenge even farther than anyone could imagine. Once the challenge was completed, students were very eager and excited to share their creations with Mrs. Trimboli’s class. They were also very excited to see what Mrs.Trimboli’s students created. Finished projects included castles complete with snowmen and towers, an impressive helicopter, a bridge with an Oreo river, and an obstacle course similar to Ninja Warrior. To say this challenge was a success was an understatement.
