College-bound seniors generally begin the business of visiting schools and preparing for life after high school during their junior year. Art student Lucy Dietrich started the process in 10th grade, and now, as a senior, that effort has paid off.
Lucy was offered early acceptance to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, the School of the Visual Arts in Manhattan, the Cleveland Institute of Arts, and Pratt. She is still waiting to hear back from SUNY Purchase, however she has been awarded top merit scholarships to each of the other schools!
Acceptance into such prestigious art schools would not have been possible without the hard work she put into preparing her college resume. Lucy participated in the Albright-Knox’s Future Curators program, both as an artist in her sophomore year and as an artist/curator in her junior year. She entered countless art exhibitions, winning awards and accolades along the way. Lucy attended summer schools, participated in workshops, and experimented with art materials, processes, and ideas on her own. Lucy and her mom, Jen Schoembs, drove hundreds of miles to visit art schools and interview with university faculty to find out what art schools were looking for.
Now Lucy has until April to make the big decision.
"We are thrilled to see Lucy’s hard work and self-determination pay off in such a big way," Tonawanda High School visual arts teacher Elizabeth Randell noted.
Congratulations, Lucy!
