When it comes to collaboration, engagement and innovation for learning, sixth-grade ELA teacher Lisa Maher has been a leading example in the Tonawanda City School District for the last 25 years.
Maher began her career with the district teaching the upper elementary grades at Highland Elementary. From there she moved to the Middle School to teach Grade 6, then back to the elementary level to teach kindergarten.
She finally landed back at Tonawanda Middle School where she has spent many years as the Grade 6 ELA teacher. Maher says working with middle school students is the perfect fit for her, as she guides students on their learning journey. She is thrilled when her students say class went by quickly because of the engaging literature.
According to Tonawanda Middle School Principal Kristine Strible, Maher's dedication to fostering curiosity and critical thinking has earned her the admiration of students and colleagues alike. Said Strible, “Lisa truly exemplifies the heart of our school community.”
Join us in thanking and congratulating Maher for 25 years of service to the community.
