On Monday, April 8, around 3:18 p.m., Tonawanda will be in the path of totality as Western New York experiences the Great North American Eclipse. This rare occurrence happens when the Moon perfectly aligns between the Sun and Earth, making it appear as it does at dawn or dusk.
It is important to ensure the safety of your eyes at that time. While observing a solar eclipse is safe when proper viewing protocols are followed, incorrect viewing methods can lead to eye injuries. Watch the video below to learn more about how to properly view the upcoming eclipse!

The next time our area will experience a solar eclipse will be a partial one on August 12, 2045.
It will be another 120 years before another total solar eclipse happens, on October 26, 2144.
