Another long-time member of the Tonawanda City School District is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year. Tonawanda High School TAP Coordinator John Tryka is in his 15th year in the district.
The TAP program (credit recovery) is new this year, meaning it gives our high schoolers another chance to earn course credits and graduate on time. Tryka has embraced his role serving as the point person for all academic and behavioral needs of students in the program. He works closely each day with the TAP school counselor, TAP teachers and THS administration to implement TAP and school policies for students.
Before the TAP program, John helped create the Warrior Academy program, which focused on a restorative approach to behavior, giving students a chance to reset and make better decisions going forward.
John is an asset to this district, and as THS Principal Lyndsey Todaro said, he is a "legendary teacher."
