Tonawanda City School District’s Board of Education has asked Dr. Lynn M. Fusco, Erie 1 BOCES District Superintendent, to serve as the District’s Search Consultant for the open superintendent position. Dr. Fusco will assist the Board in its search to ensure a credible successor. The Board met with Dr. Fusco on January 30, 2017 to plan the search process, create opportunities to involve our community, and ultimately, to fill the upcoming vacant superintendent role as smoothly as possible.
The Board of Education is interested in your thoughts, vision, and expectations of a new superintendent to lead our District. Staff, students, and the community are encouraged to complete our survey in order to provide your input about the potential candidate. Please click here to visit the Tonawanda Superintendent Search Survey page in order to submit your feedback. The survey will be available until February 9, 2017. A summary of the survey results will be provided to the Board.
A timeline of the search will be set by the City of Tonawanda Board of Education this February. Coinciding with the search and to aid in the solicitation of a new superintendent, a vacancy brochure will be available online and in the District Office, 100 Hinds Street, Tonawanda once a timeline is approved. This brochure will highlight District information, salary information, requirements for the position and a timeline for the search and selection.
A personal message from Dr. Newton regarding his retirement will be published in the District’s Winter Newsletter, which can be found on the District website in mid-February. An excerpt from his article reads, “It is with mixed blessings that I announce my retirement, which will be effective July 1, 2017. I have had the opportunity to work in public education for 31 years and 19 of those years have been right here in the City of Tonawanda School District. Thank you to the Board of Education for having confidence in me to fill this extremely important role. I have always appreciated the support of the parents, community, staff, and especially our students. We have the best students in the nation. They have always been very respectful to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
The Board of Education, along with Dr. Fusco, would like to thank the Tonawanda City School District staff and community for their input and assistance during this search process.
