Seasonal Interpretive Centers All facilities are open July 1 to Sept. 4 unless otherwise noted. Park entrance fees apply. Beaver Island Nature Center in Beaver Island State Park will be open 12-5 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. For more information call (716) 282-5154. Fort Niagara Nature Center in Fort Niagara State Park will be open 12-5 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. For more information call (716) 282-5154. Pond Exploration Become a scientist and explore the aquatic world from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, July 1 at Evangola State Park. We will search for critters, big and small, which live in the Evangola pond. For information and registration call (716) 549-1050.                    

Beginner’s Class on Kayaking Join ACA-certified kayak instructors for a one-hour session. A kayak, paddle and life jacket will be provided. Weather permitting. Space is limited. Join us at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. July 1, Aug. 5, Aug. 26 and Sept. 2 at Beaver Island State Park; or July 8 and 23 and Aug. 20 at Wilson Tuscarora State Park.

Goat Island Adventure Walk Relax and unwind while walking around Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the United States, established in 1885. Enjoy stories of yesteryears and today from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 2. End your walk with fireworks at 10 p.m. weather permitting. Free Family Movie Wednesdays Join us for crafts and activities from 6-8 p.m. and a movie to follow at sunset at Buffalo Harbor State Park. No registration required. For further information call (716) 822-1207.

Kayaking with Tina Join ACA-certified kayak instructors for a beginner’s class on Smartstart Paddling Orientation for your kayak. A kayak, paddle and life jacket will be provided for the class (let us know if you are using your own). No pets allowed. Weather permitting. Space is limited so sign up early. Artpark Family Fun Days will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays, July 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Earl W. Brydges Artpark State Park. Free Family Saturdays. For information call the Artpark Box Office at (716) 754-4375.

Gorge Hiking Series: Devil’s Hole Join us for a hike on the Devil’s Hole Trail as we discuss the geologic and local history of the gorge from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, July 9 at Devil’s Hole State Park. We will pass by the Devil’s Hole Rapids and Giant Rock, famous for its prominence in photos of the Great Gorge Route trolley line. For information and registration call (716) 282-5154.

Evening River Bike Tour Bring along your bike for our fun bicycle ride along the Niagara Gorge! We will ride from Niagara Falls State Park to Devil’s Hole State Park and get back in time to enjoy the evening and watch the fireworks. Bike helmet is required. Tour will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 9 at Niagara Falls State Park. For information and registration call (716) 282-5154.

Butterfly Beauties Enjoy a relaxing walk through the wildflower meadow of Knox Farm State Park to explore its rich diversity of butterflies from 1-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. For information and registration call (716) 549-1050.

Exploring the Night Join us for a night time walk from 8-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 along the scenic Lake Erie Trail at Evangola State Park. We will search for nocturnal creatures, listen to the twilight sounds, and enjoy the stars above. For information and registration call (716) 549-1050.

Bike the Harbor! Bring your bike and join us for a leisurely-paced bicycle ride from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 23 along the Outer Harbor trail at Buffalo Harbor State Park. The Citizen Scientist Have you ever wondered what it means to be a citizen scientist? Join us for a short hike and discussion about how to get involved in exciting projects like eBird and Habitat Network from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 29 at Evangola State Park. Nature Expedition Camp This summer day camp is where girls and boys ages 8-13 can visit three unique natural areas in their Lake Erie neighborhood, including Evangola, Penn Dixie and Reinstein Woods for an exciting adventure in outdoor discovery. Gorge Hiking Series: Where the Falls Began! Join us for a hike on both the Artpark Gorge Trail and River’s Edge Trail as we discuss the Niagara Escarpment, gorge rock layers and fossils, and of course where the falls began over 12,000 years ago! Hike will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 5 at Earl W. Brydges Artpark State Park. For information and registration call (716) 282-5154.

Nature and Art Take in one of Evangola State Park’s amazing sunsets while hiking along the scenic Lake Erie shoreline (weather permitting) from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5. Then enjoy an evening of Nature and Art activities for the whole family in the historic Nature Center. For information and registration call (716) 549-1050.

W.O.W. (Wear It on the Water) Paddle Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 at Wilson Tuscarora State Park. This free event features ACA SmartStart kayaking classes. A kayak, paddle and life jacket are provided. Includes water wet exit and recovery demos, life jacket and boating safety information. Free T-shirt for the first 100 participants wearing a life jacket to the Life Jacket Flash Mob at 1 p.m. For information and registration call (716) 282-5154.

Go Catch a Falling Star The Perseid Meteor Showers are known for producing bright streaking meteors that often leave trains! Bring a blanket or lawn chair to catch all the action over dark Lake Erie skies before the rise of a bright moon from 9-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 at Evangola State Park. Bring along a snack for a hike on the Whirlpool Rapids Trail to get a close up view of the amazing Whirlpool and rapids from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Whirlpool State Park. Crepuscular Hike: Harvest Moon Hoopla Come discover what all the hoopla is about as we set out on a moonlit hike and witness the rise of the harvest moon, the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox, from 6:30-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Knox Farm State Park. Erie Bats! Join us for an exhilarating evening hike to search for migrating tree bats where on a September night the highest count of migrating bats in the Great Lakes was recorded! Event will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 at Evangola State Park. For information and registration call (716) 549-1050.

Bike the Harbor! As summer winds, join us on a bicycle adventure from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10 along the beautiful Buffalo Harbor at Buffalo Harbor State Park. Gorge Hiking Series: Upper Great Gorge Join us for an evening hike on the Great Gorge Railway Trail to learn about the gorge geology and local history from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at Niagara Falls State Park. For information and registration call (716) 282-5154.

Woodland Waterfalls Walk Bring a picnic supper as we hike to the waterfall and enjoy dinner in the serenity of a hemlock ravine above the falls from 3-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. Picnic supper should fit in a backpack. For information and registration call (716) 549-1050.
